This week was the final week of matches in the KCB Shepway Indoor 6-a-side season, kindly sponsored by the Godden family. The Cup competition was won by Sibton Park and the Plate by Elham Valley.

The first match of the afternoon was the postponed plate semi-final between Westbourne and Wye. Westbourne batted first and scored 160-3 with Lewis Caruana leading the way with 49, the Castle twins Paul and Neil both scoring 25 and Dave Clipstone 24. In reply Wye got off to a storming start wioth both Tom Ripley and Adam Dodd retiring, Keith Secret and Kumar continued the good work until Tom and Adam returned to finish the job, Wye winning with 5 balls to spare. Tom scored 47 and Adam 34.

The Plate final between Wye and Elham Valley followed, Elham batted first reaching 160-3 with a superb display of running between the wickets as there were very few boundaries in their total. Ollie Boughton scoring 47, Dan Beeson 27 and Dan Baker 25. In reply Wye were quickly in trouble at 8-3 in the second over and eventually were bowled out for 125 with Kumar scoring 57, Dan Baker taking 2-16. Ollie Boughton was man of the match as he also bowled his three overs for only 26 runs and 1 wicket.

The Cup final between Sibton Park and Selsted was watched by a big crowd who enjoyed an excellent close match. Selsted batted first and reached 129-5 off their 12 overs with Stuart Green scoring 40 and Dan Matcham 36, Adam Lamberton taking 2-9. Experts in the crowd thought this was too few, but in reply Sibton lost two early wickets but crucially kept up with the required rate, being helped by Selsted bowling 16 wides and they reached their target with 1 ball to spare with Jamie Keeler’s 40 leading the way with and Kieran Mann scoring 25.

This week in the KCB Shepway 6-a-side Cup and Plate competitions Sibton Park, Selsted and Elham Valley all booked their places in next week’s finals. Unfortunately the other semi-final between Westbourne and Wye had to be abandoned after only 10 balls as a result of a nasty injury to one of the Wye players. This has now been rescheduled for next week.

In the first match of the afternoon Folkestone batted first against Sibton Park and were bowled out for 72 with Ryan Hall being top-scorer with 24.This made it easy for the Park as they cruised to victory in the 7th over, Jamie Keeler scoring 26 and Steve Hickmott 21.

In the second match Selsted batted first against Mersham-le-Hatch and scored 151-4 with 33 from Stuart Green, 32 from Steve Merrington and 24 from Joe Thresher. Hatch made a great stsart with 27 off the first two overs, but once Jeremy Godden retired lost their way and finished on 121-4 with Matt Lincoln scoring 43 and Jeremy Godden 27.

In the third match Saltwood batted first against Elham Valley and reached 118 all out with 54 from Simon Hooper. Valley batted steadily after the early loss of the normally prolific Josh Marden to reach their target in the 11th of the 12 overs. Sam Goss scored 30 and Kavan Risby 26.

As I mentioned earlier the fourth match was abandoned after 10 balls due to an injury to a Wye player.

Results

Folkestone 72 all out (R Hall 24) lost to Sibton Park 73-0 (J Keeler 26 ret, S Hickmott 23 no) by 6 wickets.

Selsted 151-4 (S Green 33, S Merrington 32 no, J Thresher 24) beat Mersham-le-Hatch 121-4 (M Lincoln 46 no, Je Godden 27) by 30 runs.
