Indoor Cup and Plate Finals 2012

Written by Arthur Atkins

This was the final week in the KCB Shepway 6-a-side competitions sponsored by Jim Godden.

The Plate final was the first match played when 2nd Division runners-up took on Westbourne who had finished 6th in Division 2. Stowting batted first and lost two quick wickets but helped by some wayward bowling (18 wides conceded) and Steve Jackson’s liking of Neil Castle’s bowling they totalled 88-5 with Steve scoring 34 and father David running well at the end to score 16. Lewis Caruana was the pick of the Westbourne bowlers with 2-18. In contrast Stowting’s bowlers kept a tight line and strangled the Westbourne batsmen bowling them out for 46 in the 9th over with Steve Jackson only conceding 8 runs in his 3 overs and brother Mark taking 2-3.

In the Cup Final league champions Folkestone A took on 2nd Division mid-tablers Hythe Green. Folkestone batted first and had a disastrous start with Ryan Hall being bowled with first ball of the innings and Michael James bowled off the 5th ball of the same over. This was the start of an impressive spell by James Wybrow who took 2-3 off his 3 overs. Stuart Graham was the only one of the early batsmen to prosper until he was caught for 25 off the bowling of Joe Maloney who took 3-22. This left young Sam Brougy to see out the innings scoring 20. Folkestone finished on 65-5. In Hythe Green’s reply James Wybrow led the way for a “man of the match” display by scoring 27 not out to ease his side home to a giant-killing with 2 overs to spare, Ryan Currie taking 2-6 for Folkestone.

After the matches the trophies were presented by the President of KCB Shepway John Godden.

Our thanks go to the organisers and all the umpires for their support during the winter season, They now get a short rest before the outdoor season starts.
