Weekly Report – 27th March 2011
In the final week of matches in the KCB Shepway 6-a-side season Folkestone easily completed the double when winning the Cup, while Barham had two comfortable wins to win the Plate.
The afternoon started with the Plate semi-finals. In the first of these Barham batted first against Westbourne and reached 81-2 with skipper Shahid Rajput leading the way with 24, and 20 each from Joe Payne and Sean Carey. In reply Westbourne finished 10 runs short with John Mortimer scoring 21 and Lewis Caruana 15, Joe Payne only conceding 9 runs in his 2 overs.
In the second semi New Romney only managed 46 in their 8 over innings against Brook with 16 from Rob Liddell, Ian Lancaster and Mark Burch only conceding 3 and 5 respectively. This proved very easy for Brook who reached their target in the 6th over with Tony Campbell scoring 20 and Ian Lancaster 16, Lee Smith took 2-3.
The Plate final followed and Barham reached 105-3, which was the highest score of the day, against Brook. Joe Payne scored 31 and Sean Carey and Terry Dunham each scored 22. In reply Brook were bowled out for 66 with Ian Thomas scoring 25 and Mark Burch 19.
After the final the trophies were presented by our sponsor Jimmy Godden who we thank for his help with our expenses.
The next match was the first of the Cup semi-finals and was a very low scoring match. Cheriton/Sellindge batted first but only managed 30-5 off their 8 overs against very tight Folkestone bowling. Folkestone reached their meagre target in the 4th over without losing a wicket.
The second semi was a closer affair. Sibton Park batted first against Elham Valley A and reached 94-2 with Steve Hickmott scoring 22, Dave Stewart 20 and Terry Hardie 16. In reply the Valley made a spirited attempt to chase the target but fell 16 short with 21 from Alex Feaver and 20 from Kavan Risby, Keiran Mann took 2-10.
The final between Folkestone and Sibton was a tame affair. Sibton batted first and reached 62 all out with Trevor Lewis top-scoring with 16. Folkestone needed less than 5 overs to win the match and the Cup and League double with Nick Graham scoring 21 and Stuart Graham 17.
After the final the Cup and League trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up by Wallace Laker.
